Kakslauttanen offers an excellent opportunity for hiking and trekking. There are several well marked routes starting just from the hotel yard. All in all Saariselkä area has more than 240 km of marked routes surrounded by beautiful nature of Lapland. If you feel adventurous, you can hike outside marked routes by just using maps and compass. We also provide guided tours.
Kakslauttanen area is one of the best areas in Lapland for mountain and downhill biking. There is plenty of marked tracks for everybody from pros to the beginners. We offer bike rental and assistance, as well as organize excursions that last from half day till several days.
Nordic walking is a physical activity involving walking assisted by poles similar to ones used in cross-country skiing. The idea is that you whole body gets exercised instead of just legs. The poles also help to keep balance if you decide to go off road. Nordic walking combines the best sides of walking and cross-country skiing and it is a very popular sports in Finland these days. Picking mushrooms and berries is everybody’s public right in Finland (so called "jokamiehenoikeus", every man’s right). Meaning that you are free to go almost anywhere in the nature and pick berries or mushrooms for your own use. Lapland forests are full of berries and mushrooms ready to pick. The most common berries in Lapland include blueberry, lingonberry, cranberry and cloudberry. The berry picking season in Lapland in between August and November. The typical mushrooms in Lapland include different Boletus like Ceps (Boletus Edulis) and Milk Caps. We provide you with all the information, equipment and guidance.
It was not so long ago when all of us where able to survive in the nature, but sometime in the era of mobiles phones and personal computers we forgot these essential skills. You never know if survival skills come handy one day, so why not master them now. In our survival training you will learn how to make fire even when the wood are wet, how to obtain food and water from the nature and how to set a temporary camp in the wilderness. You will also learn how to use the most common survival equipment. Courses take from a couple of hours to several days.
